About Transition....
The 21st-century definition of sustainability goes far beyond the narrow parameters of how biological systems endure and remain diverse and productive. Today, it refers to the need to develop the sustainable models necessary for us all to survive. Sustainability today is therefore a balancing act.
The United Nation’s 1987 Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development: Our Common Future noted that sustainable development needs to meet the needs of the present community without compromising the well-being of future generations.
The concept of sustainability still continues to expand in scope. In 2000, the Earth Charter broadened the definition of sustainability to include the idea of a global society “founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace.”
To achieve these goals, humans will have to re-examine their policies on:

A positive story of a positive future that then leads on to positive and achievable local action. Transition is not a set of answers and there are no guidelines nor are there rigid rules. Every community has to create its own vision and define its own priorities.
In the spirit of thinking globally and acting locally, Transition Wood Street is looking to become part of that expanding network of local stories in the hope that we can our voice to inspire, encourage, support, network and train communities to take local community action....

One caveat: One of our aims is to be as inclusive and as non-divisive as possible, meaning we will look to reach out to groups of all stripes but about the only thing we will not tolerate is a bullying approach or anyone's rights or views being devalued or diminished. That is very clear and not much to ask in terms of getting along toward a common goal. If that goal is not for you then please spare everyone the stress as there are plenty of other forums out there.
