The following is a loosely collected list of organisations in and around Wood Street and Waltham Forest which encourage and work toward the building of more resilient and sustainable communities. Let us know of any that you feel we should be adding:
- Allotments - everything you need to know about Waltham Forest allotments
- Beans on Balconies - community initiative doing green projects and educational work with young people
- E17 Art Trail - the famous annual arts and crafts festival that takes place across Walthamstow
- Friends of the Manual Instruction Centre - working with Wood St Walls to introduce a community garden in Barrett Rd.
- Forest Recycling Project (FRP) – local projects to reduce, reuse and recycle waste
- Greenway Avenue Community Play Garden - our local voluntary community garden group nearby to Greenway Avenue
- GREEN – supporting projects that address environmental and social justice issues
- HEET – helping people save money on fuel bills, reduce energy & cut carbon emissions
- Hornbeam Centre – environmental centre & community cafe nearby to the Baker Arms junction
- London Transition - awareness raising for Transition groups around London.
- OrganicLea – workers’ food growing cooperative growing food
- Save Wood Street Library - campaigning group set up to keep the library at its current location
- Significant Seams – fostering support, and practical skills through textile crafts
- Transition Leytonstone - the Leytonstone chapter of the Transition network established in 2009.
- Transition Network - inspires and supports communities to self-organise around the Transition model
- Transition Waltham Forest - the hub for Transition groups in Waltham Forest.
- Transition Walthamstow - the Walthamstow branch of the transition initiative.
- Waltham Forest Freecycle - a space to share, re-use and recycle locally.
- Waltham Forest Echo – community newspaper
- Waltham Forest Civic Society - working to preserve the best of the built environment and green spaces
- Waltham Forest LETS – a site to trade goods and services locally without using money
- Walthamstow Family Bike Club – relaxed & sociable Sunday afternoons for families
- We Are Wood Street - local business forum
- Wood Street First - community group that aims to improve the lives of the community in Wood Street.
- Wood Street Walls - public art group also looking to introduce a creative art hub at the Manual Instruction Centre
